CSUMC Welcomes Our New Part-Time Pastoral Assistant

Last Sunday, Rachel Mills announced the hiring of the Rev. Dr. Rebecca (Becky) Bruff as a Part-Time Pastoral Assistant. Becky will assist the pastor in worship, preaching, and pastoral care. She will also be leading Bible and other studies in the Christian faith. In addition, she will serve as a resource person for our Youth and Children’s Ministries. Through June of this year, she will be 1/4 time and beginning in July, she will serve on a 1/2 time basis.

Becky was ordained in the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. She holds a BS degree from Texas A&M University, a Master of Divinity, Theology and a Doctor of Ministry from Southern Methodist University. She has served as Associate Pastor at First United Methodist Church, Richardson, Texas and Sr. Associate Pastor and Director of Missions Ministries at Highland Park UMC, along with other positions in the North Texas Conference. Becky has written a historical novel about Robert Smalls which is being published this spring. You will hear more about this soon. We feel fortunate to have Becky serving us at Carteret Street UMC and look forward to being in ministry together with her.

Is There a Way Forward for the United Methodist Church?

February 23-26, 2019 may be the most significant four days in the life of the United Methodist Church since its beginning in 1968. A called General Conference will meet in St. Louis to vote on a recommendation of the Council of Bishops regarding the report for The Commission on a Way Forward, created “to do a complete examination and possible revision of every paragraph of the Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and explore options that help maintain and strengthen the unity of the church.” Having observed other mainline denominations travel this road, many United Methodists are anxious over what will take place at the called General Conference in February.

Your pastor will bring a series of sermons based on The United Methodist Church and our desire to be faithful to the gospel of Jesus Christ in light of what some consider a crisis and others an opportunity. We hope you will join us as we consider:

Jan. 20 – What Is the Proposed Way Forward?
Jan. 27 – What Will It Take to Make A Way Forward? Feb. 3 – The Never-Ending Search for a Way Forward

Great Day of Service, March 23, 2019

This will be the tenth year CSUMC members will come together as an entire congregation to send volunteers of all ages to serve non-profit organizations and individuals in need within Beaufort County. Additional details and volunteer registration forms will be mailed out in mid-February. In the meantime, please mark your calendar and plan to be a part of this very important mission.
